2008 NEWS

University of North Carolina at Asheville, Art in Prisons Program. Drawing to Maximum Security Prisoners at Foothills Correctional. January - March and June - August 2008.

Note: Teal's portraiture class at Avery Mitchell Correctional Facility will receive special recognition for their notable work. Their art will be featured in a Fall 2008 exhibition and in a book published by the North Carolina Department of Corrections and the University of North Carolina. The book will be sold by the University of North Carolina around the state at its branch libraries, at state-owned art institutions, and all prison facilities in North Carolina.

Monika Teal, American Painter in Cuba

"Monika Teal and Caridad Ramos opened at Galeria Oriente in Santiago de Cuba on August 4, 2002. Ms. Teal is the first American artist to show at Galeria Oriente in Santiago, and one of a few American artists who have been invited by the Cuban Union of Artists and Writers to show in eastern Cuba. The exhibition received national newspaper, radio and television coverage. Ms. Teal is showing in Cuba with permission from the U.S. Department of Treasury and a cultural visa from the Cuban government.
